New York trombonist Michael Boscarino is a native of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. He began his musical studies at age 7 on the piano. At age 11, he began playing the trombone on the advice of his grandfather and hasn’t looked back since. Michael holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Youngstown State University and a Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music. His trombone teachers include; Susan Van Arsdale, Robert Matchett Jr., Robert Matchett III, Michael Crist, Paul McKee, and Steve Turre.

While attending Youngstown State University, Michael was active on the Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Youngstown freelance scenes and gained invaluable performance experience. His performance credits in these areas include; The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Three Rivers Entertainment, Redline, The Balcony Big Band, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Ernie Krivda and the Fat Tuesday Big Band, Sabor Latino, Azucar, and the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra.

In 2002, Michael spent the summer playing lead trombone in the Disneyland All-American College Band and was honored to perform as a featured soloist with the Tom Kubis Big Band at a concert in Huntington Beach, California. During the summer of 2003, Michael returned to California and attended the Henry Mancini Institute at UCLA on a full scholarship.

Michael has been a part of the New York City music scene since August of 2004. He enjoys a diverse freelance career and he performs in a wide variety of musical settings. He currently works regularly with Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Max Weinberg Orchestra, Beginnings, Michael Feinstein Big Band, Kyle Saulnier and the Awakening Orchestra, The Rhythm Shop and he is a former member of the Birdland Big Band.

Michael is in the studio frequently for recording projects and jingle work. His trombone work can be heard on commercials for A Night With Janis Joplin, Degree Deodorant, The Breeders' Cup 2012, Olive Garden, Comcast Xfinity NCAA Football, Charles Schwab, Wrigley’s Extra Dessert Delights Gum, Ragu, Sears, and Commit NiQuitin Minis. He has contributed to pre-recorded theme music used at the Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan as well as cabaret show music for Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Orlando Resort. Furthermore, Michael played on much of the pre-recorded music used on the NBC broadcast of the 88th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (2014) and his tuba and bass trombone work can be heard on theme music for WWE star, Bo Dallas. In addition, Michael was the trombonist on the PBS Thirteen TV Special; Great Performances-Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin’ To Do. He can be heard on several albums as a sideman as well (see Discography below).

In September 2013, Michael was appointed to his first full-time position on Broadway as trombonist in the musical, A Night With Janis Joplin at the Lyceum Theatre. He appeared on stage throughout the show with the rest of the band and the cast. In early October 2013, Michael appeared in featured segments done on A Night With Janis Joplin by the CBS Sunday Morning news and the Katie (Couric) show on ABC. In December 2013, Michael appeared again in a featured segment done on A Night With Janis Joplin by ABC World News and his trombone could be heard on the backing track used by the cast of the show for their performance on The Wendy Williams Show. In March 2017, Michael was appointed to his second full-time position on Broadway as Trombone 1/Euphonium on The New American Musical, Bandstand.

Elsewhere on the Broadway scene, Boscarino subs in the pits of Book of Mormon and Wicked, and previously subbed in the pits of South Pacific, In The Heights, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Porgy & Bess, Rocky, Bullets Over Broadway, Newsies, Pippin, It Shoulda Been You, and Disaster! prior to their closings.

In New York, Michael has performed at such venues as; The Appel Room, Apollo Theater, Avery Fisher Hall, Beacon Theatre, Blue Note, Birdland, B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, Carnegie Hall, Copacabana, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Feinstein's, The Garage, Gonzalez y Gonzalez, Iridium Jazz Club, The Jazz Gallery, Joyce Theater, Manhattan Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center, The Rainbow Room, Zinc Bar, and several Broadway theaters. He has also performed at major venues and festivals across the United States and abroad including; Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Citi Field, Dodger Stadium, Grand Ole Opry, Safeco Field, Yoshi’s San Francisco, BluesFest London (England), Detroit Jazz Festival, Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Summer Jazz Series, Imatra Big Band Festival (Finland), Zürich Jazznojazz Festival (Switzerland), Montreal Jazz Festival (Canada), PASIC, Verizon Wireless American Music Festival, Verona Jazz Festival (Italy), and the Villanova Jazz Festival.

Michael is active as a composer/arranger and as a teacher/clinician. His compositions and arrangements have been performed and/or recorded by ensembles nationwide. As a teacher/clinician, Michael has taught privately and has served on faculty for several jazz camps and workshops throughout the northeastern United States, including the Jazz Connections Summer Workshop at Montclair State University.

Throughout his musical career and studies, Michael has had the great fortune of performing with such renowned artists as; Eagles, Don Henley, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Frankie Valli, Bruce Springsteen, Regis and Joy Philbin, Chita Rivera, Natalie Cole, Carole King, Aloe Blacc, Michael Feinstein, Lynn Roberts, Ann Hampton Calloway, Jane Monheit, Patti Austin, Freddy Cole, Freda Payne, Marilyn Maye, Christian McBride, Peter Erskine, Arturo Sandoval, Randy Newman, Bob Mintzer, James Moody, Gunther Schuller, Tom Kubis, Wayne Bergeron, Sal Lozano, Rick Baptist, Vince Mendoza, Dave Holland Quintet, Vinnie Colaiuta, Will Lee, Ray Gelato, Conrad Herwig, John Allred, Michel Legrand, Sonny Fortune, Jimmy Heath, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Lew Tabackin, Dave Liebman, Candido Camero, and Buddy Morrow.
